Thanks to some Christmas money my pencil skirt collection has increased almost exponentially over the winter break. </div><div><br></div><div>This one arrived as a £2.50 gift from my mum a few days ago in the mail and Sunday seemed to be the perfect day for its first outing! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9jt2jNSGjwQ/VLU6NQwC4PI/AAAAAAAAAtc/gZewTbHYTJA/s640/blogger-image-1825372089.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9jt2jNSGjwQ/VLU6NQwC4PI/AAAAAAAAAtc/gZewTbHYTJA/s640/blogger-image-1825372089.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I've also got a bit obsessed with the Bardot tops that seem to be all over the place at the moment. I've waited till a week into the new year to post this as the biggest change I'm making this year was going to require some organisation! <div><br></div><div>I've got a list of things in my new diary that I would like to do at some point this year, but these are my two main thought process changing ones! </div><div><br></div><div>1) Become a better person. </div><div><br></div><div>Not the best phrasing but I feel it encompasses what I want to accomplish. </div><div><br></div><div>This means thinking more about others. No more rubbish excuses about forgetting birthdays etc of the people who matter to me or just not posting stuff on time. Thank you cards and real gratitude. More thoughtfulness and mindfulness in general.</div><div><br></div><div>The biggest thing that I'm throwing in under this is cutting down on my swearing. Obviously you can still swear and be a good person, it's just become a bad habit for me that I would like to cut. So far it has gone reasonably well. The words are so ingrained in my language it's taking quite a lot to replace them! </div><div><br></div><div>New favourites:</div><div><br></div><div>Poppycock! </div><div>Oh bother! </div><div>Blast! </div><div><br></div><div>All said in an incredibly posh fake accent. Just for fun :-) </div><div><br></div><div>2) Go Vegan. </div><div><br></div><div>This is a biggie. I've been vegetarian now for eight months and veganism has been encroaching on me from all sides for the majority of that. </div><div><br></div><div>I've been dabbling with aspects of it (dairy free margarine, dairy free milks and vegan baking!) for quite a while now and feel like I've been copping out of really doing it. </div><div><br></div><div>I was staying with my mum and godmother at the very beginning of the year and straight to work where I stay in a caravan for the last few days so it just wasn't practical to begin right away as I don't really feel like a lifestyle of my own choosing should make others lives difficult. (....and let's be honest here, I wanted to finish my mum's Christmas cake! Any vegan suggestions for next Christmas?!) </div><div><br></div><div>So yesterday I took the step. I had cereal with oat milk for breakfast. I had veggie curry and rice for lunch and I had Tesco's nut cutlets with mash and veg for dinner. (Yup, I eat a lot!) Plus banana custard for dessert made with soy milk. Dad was unimpressed. I thought it tasted the same. </div><div><br></div><div>I've prepped by buying vegan store cupboard essentials. I've accepted the thought that eating out is going to be difficult now. I've researched about vegan cosmetics etc. </div><div><br></div><div>What I'm not doing is throwing things out that I already use. Cosmetics, shampoos, nail polishes etc that I already own I'm not throwing away. I'm having to balance being vegan with having a very limited income. Anything new I buy will be BUAV approved. A lot of the stuff I use already is.</div><div><br></div><div>Superdrug you reasonably priced bit of brilliance I'm looking at you. Can't recommend them enough. Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer's are also BUAV approved which is great. </div><div><br></div><div>3) Be HAPPY. </div><div><br></div><div>All the usual new year stuff. Love myself, make good decisions, practice gratitude. </div><div><br></div><div>I believe gratitude is a big part of this. I'm trying to keep a diary this year. It's online and one day maybe I'll share it. But at the end of every entry I write down three things I'm grateful for. Hopefully this will help! </div><div><br></div><div>So that's me this year. Hopefully a better person all round by the time 2016 hits our lives. </div><div><br></div><div>What're your resolutions? Have you broken them already? :-) </div><div><br></div><div>Jo :-) </div>Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04616839803303329232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3405851595133066442.post-63678372134917432852014-11-19T10:59:00.001-08:002014-11-20T01:02:42.970-08:00Lemon Drizzle Cake - Vegan RecipeI suppose it's slightly more tropical lemon drizzle cake than its non-vegan cousin, as I've used banana as an egg substitute, it's still very tasty though! <div><br></div><div>Pre-heat your oven to 180*C</div><div><br></div><div>Ingredients:</div><div><br></div><div>- 175g ripe banana </div><div>- 1tsp baking powder</div><div>- 100g muscavado sugar</div><div>- 75g caster sugar</div><div>- 100g margarine</div><div>- 2tbsp lemon juice (fresh or bottled!)</div><div>- 200g Self Raising flour</div><div><br></div><div>Drizzle:</div><div><br></div><div>- 3tbsp lemon juice </div><div>- 3tbsp caster sugar </div><div><br></div><div>Icing:</div><div><br></div><div>- 5 heaped tsp icing sugar</div><div>- 2tsp water</div><div><br></div><div>Method:</div><div><br></div><div>Mash up your banana with the baking powder</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4iD156i7mVE/VGz82T6CZ-I/AAAAAAAAAss/95zcNjn1y5o/s640/blogger-image--1916565160.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4iD156i7mVE/VGz82T6CZ-I/AAAAAAAAAss/95zcNjn1y5o/s640/blogger-image--1916565160.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Add both the sugars plus <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">the margarine and mash them in as well!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uYQs-acW5k0/VGz3EBV6uVI/AAAAAAAAAsU/iyETzziymEE/s640/blogger-image-1804279442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uYQs-acW5k0/VGz3EBV6uVI/AAAAAAAAAsU/iyETzziymEE/s640/blogger-image-1804279442.jpg"></a></div><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Add the lemon juice and mix up well. I haven't seen the earlier ones, but hopefully a DVD set will rectify that at some point. <div><br></div><div>So when I saw this tshirt at my local MOD surplus store (Gillings, it's The Best) I knew I had to have it!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-p1P_y6saHC4/VGyu-QEkVtI/AAAAAAAAArU/aNHhVr3RByg/s640/blogger-image-861755972.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-p1P_y6saHC4/VGyu-QEkVtI/AAAAAAAAArU/aNHhVr3RByg/s640/blogger-image-861755972.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Unfortunately it was a men's size XL. Gratifyingly big on me! Not so nice for running in. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I took a little (shrunk, thank you tumble dryer) dress I have that I like the fit of and laid it centrally on top of the shirt. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-PLRi_8ySqX8/VGyv4UonUvI/AAAAAAAAArs/V7GEiQngY0M/s640/blogger-image-821579933.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-PLRi_8ySqX8/VGyv4UonUvI/AAAAAAAAArs/V7GEiQngY0M/s640/blogger-image-821579933.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Cut around one side. Along the arm too so it was longer than before. Make sure you leave a gap around the edge big enough for your hem. I left about a cm as I didn't want it to be too bulky. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-dweqX-9_CMg/VGyu6htVnfI/AAAAAAAAArE/Vne7sHCeuZc/s640/blogger-image--362848129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-dweqX-9_CMg/VGyu6htVnfI/AAAAAAAAArE/Vne7sHCeuZc/s640/blogger-image--362848129.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Fold it over with the fold right down the centre so that it's nicely symmetrical and cut the other side to match the first. This is part of my "it's old, I don't mind it getting grubby but I still want to look cute" wardrobe that I utilise for work a lot of the time! <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-eP-brt9yqMI/VGU44Er_zzI/AAAAAAAAAqc/ykSXT30cY70/s640/blogger-image--1106463565.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-eP-brt9yqMI/VGU44Er_zzI/AAAAAAAAAqc/ykSXT30cY70/s640/blogger-image--1106463565.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Beret: First Avenue Classics via a charity shop</div><div>Shrug: New Look years ago!</div><div>Necklace: gift</div><div>Dress: F+F Tesco via eBay </div><div>Belt: Dorothy Perkins via a charity shop</div><div>Vest and Leggings: Primark</div><div>Boots: New Look</div><div><br></div><div>Mostly my work wardrobe just needs to be warm. Layers are such a good friend! Primark is amazing for cheap items to wear under my clothes in the winter. Ditto all the supermarket clothing lines! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Lzk1fiSWkNo/VGU49M68TZI/AAAAAAAAAqs/ZT_yw4ncX3Y/s640/blogger-image--1147755720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Lzk1fiSWkNo/VGU49M68TZI/AAAAAAAAAqs/ZT_yw4ncX3Y/s640/blogger-image--1147755720.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I'm sure as winter gets here I'll go back to trousers and heavy fleeces but for now I'm hanging onto my skirts for as long as possible! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IEVYrQwUpMI/VGU46wUmPWI/AAAAAAAAAqk/6NQsV9ChKGE/s640/blogger-image--675149597.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IEVYrQwUpMI/VGU46wUmPWI/AAAAAAAAAqk/6NQsV9ChKGE/s640/blogger-image--675149597.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Also a selfie because my make up went beautifully that day and matched my outfit perfectly! Make up is all by Collection except my Mascara which is by Marks and Spencer's. They're very rich and moist and very chocolatey! The recipe makes 10 small cupcakes. Or fairy cakes. But not big ol' muffins! <div><br></div><div>Ingredients:</div><div><br></div><div>1 fairly ripe banana</div><div>1 tsp baking powder</div><div>A heaped table spoon of dark cocoa powder </div><div>50g muscavado sugar (could be subbed for other sugar but this is very rich!)</div><div>50g vegan margarine </div><div>75g self raising flour </div><div><br></div><div>Method:</div><div><br></div><div>Mix the first three ingredients together. Mashing the banana until it's as smooth as possible. </div><div><br></div><div>Add the sugar and the margarine and beat together. </div><div><br></div><div>Add the flour a bit at a time until it comes together in a smooth, glossy, fairly thick consistency. </div><div><br></div><div>Restrain yourself from eating it out of the bowl....</div><div><br></div><div>Divide into cake cases!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wpUhROmYjZ4/VDKbc7IPAjI/AAAAAAAAAqM/riSADHDjVow/s640/blogger-image--1598560630.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wpUhROmYjZ4/VDKbc7IPAjI/AAAAAAAAAqM/riSADHDjVow/s640/blogger-image--1598560630.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Bake for 15 minutes in a 180 degree C oven until a skewer comes out clean. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-i_87j4hcIws/VDKbaXslUvI/AAAAAAAAAqE/-L0cgnnayz4/s640/blogger-image--2042989981.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-i_87j4hcIws/VDKbaXslUvI/AAAAAAAAAqE/-L0cgnnayz4/s640/blogger-image--2042989981.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I hope you enjoy them! </div><div><br></div><div>I want to try out more egg substitutes in my baking as cooked banana isn't always my thing!! (And I think he misses his treats!) So I came up with this recipe. <div><br></div><div>It also ticks the vegan and vegetarian boxes which is awesome :-)</div><div><br></div><div><b>Oat and Ginger Cookies</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Ingredients:</div><div><br></div><div>100g self raising flour</div><div>100g oats</div><div>100g muscavado sugar</div><div>1 teaspoon baking soda</div><div>2 teaspoons ground mixed spice</div><div>1 teaspoon ground cinnamon</div><div>2 teaspoons ground ginger*</div><div>140g plain applesauce (mine was homemade, basically just apple puree! I even left the skin on! I'm lazy)</div><div><br></div><div>*dad loves (<i>loves</i>) ginger so I've put more than this in mine! Feel free to add any combination of spices you want!! </div><div><br></div><div>Method:</div><div><br></div><div>Heat oven to 180'C</div><div><br></div><div>Mix all the dry ingredients together. Try and get most of the lumps out of the sugar. No worries if you don't! </div><div><br></div><div>Mix in the applesauce! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-PW35M_vVjrk/U9F0p6v4pMI/AAAAAAAAApc/XWKY_KvOnPI/s640/blogger-image--707924431.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-PW35M_vVjrk/U9F0p6v4pMI/AAAAAAAAApc/XWKY_KvOnPI/s640/blogger-image--707924431.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Try not to eat it. </div><div><br></div><div>Put on baking paper lined baking trays in little cookie shaped rounds. Something new from me today! <div><br></div><div>A lot has changed since my last post. I've moved to Norfolk, I'm no longer engaged, and I've gone all vegetarian! And that means no real fur coats either! </div><div><br></div><div>Anyway, on a search for good veggie recipes, it struck me that I take lots of ideas from all over the place and cut corners left, right and centre! Some things turn out simply and well, and I thought I'd start sharing some of those recipes here! This is the first! </div><div><br></div><div><b>Fresh Quinoa Salad</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Ingredients:</div><div><br></div><div>Quinoa (however much you think you need for each person)</div><div>Veggie stock (homemade will be vegan, check shop bought!)</div><div>Mango (1/2 per person)</div><div>Cucumber (2 inch chunk per person)</div><div>Avocado (1/2 per person)</div><div>Juice of a 1 Lime (per person)</div><div>Small bunch of Coriander</div><div>A little olive oil</div><div>Any other seasoning you'd like!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EmVsi5V7zJk/U6Hk9muf_PI/AAAAAAAAApM/3ZUAfIRupnI/s640/blogger-image--1371092303.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EmVsi5V7zJk/U6Hk9muf_PI/AAAAAAAAApM/3ZUAfIRupnI/s640/blogger-image--1371092303.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Method:</div><div><br></div><div>Put your quinoa on to cook (with or without stock depending on your preference)</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-GaP084aXL9M/U6Hk24CfC8I/AAAAAAAAAo0/JiVxVxlnSZ0/s640/blogger-image-1554517768.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-GaP084aXL9M/U6Hk24CfC8I/AAAAAAAAAo0/JiVxVxlnSZ0/s640/blogger-image-1554517768.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Dice all the fruit and cucumber</div><div>Juice the lime and add finely chopped coriander, the oil and any other seasoning and whisk it all together </div><div>When the quinoa is cooked, mix it all together!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cQ4gSCd6_XY/U6Hk7RD74II/AAAAAAAAApE/92FT7xA1CaA/s640/blogger-image--2035678258.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cQ4gSCd6_XY/U6Hk7RD74II/AAAAAAAAApE/92FT7xA1CaA/s640/blogger-image--2035678258.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Serve either as a warm main meal salad or side dish. I know we're supposed to have miserable winters but this is crazy! </div><div><br></div>So February happened the day we got back off holiday, spent the entire day sleeping and then went to a Burn's night party! <div><br></div><div>It's taken me a while to catch up with everything. Work. Laundry. Ugh. Coming back to real life after two weeks is always such a shock to the system!! </div><div><br></div><div>So, as usual on this blog, I present my monthly aim! Late. :-)</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KeFqGMXom7o/UvSph5K8jAI/AAAAAAAAAoU/FZxOwxEzVwI/s640/blogger-image--2132647020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-KeFqGMXom7o/UvSph5K8jAI/AAAAAAAAAoU/FZxOwxEzVwI/s640/blogger-image--2132647020.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I love that picture. Although I'm kind of glad we haven't had any snow yet! </div><div><br></div><div>I decided to carry on January's aim really, to decrease my pile of almost finished sewing projects! Which should tell you how January's aim went! I just completely ran out of time before holidays! </div><div><br></div><div>We've got a Mardi Gras at the Jazz Club (@colchesterjazz on twitter if you're interested!) which my Hawaiian fabric should be perfect for. </div><div><br></div><div>So here's a quick list of things that need finishing. </div><div><br></div><div>Evening dress - I sewed the side seams too tight so I just need to add a couple of inches, re sew, then seam rip the old ones! </div><div><br></div><div>Hawaiian pieces - skirt, shorts, halter neck top. </div><div><br></div><div>Silk Blouse - silver bias binding round arms and neck. </div><div><br></div><div>Sheer skirt - I'd like another of these, and they're very easy to make! You can find my tutorial for one here. <span style="font-family: '.HelveticaNeueUI'; font-size: 15px; line-height: 19px; white-space: nowrap; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); ">http://www.ofavintageair.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/easy-sheer-gathered-skirt-tutorial.html?m=1</span></div><div><br></div><div>I've got a bag to finish made from some jeans. A whole load of wool related stuff, and a dress to turn into a skirt for a friend. </div><div><br></div><div>So that should keep me busy for a month! </div><div><br></div><div>Normal service should be resumed fairly shortly, I think I'm just about caught up with myself now! The 100 happy days posts that I've missed due to lack of Internet will be up soon, too. I think technically I've failed on the challenge as I haven't uploaded one a day, but I have taken them, I just lacked Internet connection for most of the time!! Then I got lost on what day I was on number wise and gave up a bit, so I'm hoping to catch up with it all over the weekend! </div><div><br></div><div>Wish me luck!</div><div><br></div><div>Jo. </div><div><br></div><div>P.S. planning anything special for February? </div>Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04616839803303329232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3405851595133066442.post-19781879573452612722014-01-20T22:05:00.001-08:002014-01-20T22:10:57.506-08:00Easy Sheer Gathered Skirt Tutorial<div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); ">I've had a whole load of beautiful fabrics from India sitting in my stash for a long while now. </div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); "><br></div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); ">Some are fairly heavy and ok for general type sewing, but there's not a lot of these. As I have an old sewing machine that only does straight stitch I always make casings for elastic waists etc. if you're using one inch elastic (or ribbon as in my case!!) you need to fold your top line over an inch and a half, then turn the edge under twice to create a tube that's an inch wide when stitched down. </div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); "><br></div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); ">6) I French seam my edges when I join them to hide the raw edge again. It's only straight stitching so it doesn't take long. Put wrong sides together and sew as close to the edge as you can, then fold back right sides together and sew down about a centimetre from the edge to encase the first stitch line. Hey presto French seam! </div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); "><br></div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); ">7) if you're just using ribbon to fasten at the waist, thread this through using a safety pin, put skirt on, tie a pretty bow and you're done! If you're using elastic, measure a length to a snug fit on your waist and cut with a centimetre extra. Feed through the channel (safety pin again!) and then stitch back and forward a few times to secure the elastic in a loop. Hand stitch the raw edges of the channel together. </div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); "><br></div><div style="font-family: Noteworthy; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 24px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0976563); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(191, 107, 82, 0.496094); ">8) wear your beautiful floaty new skirt! I'm a day late with this which doesn't bode well. On the other hand, I had a wonderful day yesterday lounging with the other half on the sofa while he played flight simulator and I watched the TV series of Pride and Prejudice! Lovely. <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-hzp75BgmAXo/UsViLmYlPkI/AAAAAAAAAkM/0OoIvE5QN0s/s640/blogger-image-942107948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-hzp75BgmAXo/UsViLmYlPkI/AAAAAAAAAkM/0OoIvE5QN0s/s640/blogger-image-942107948.jpg"></a></div> </div><div>So. Hello January. </div><div><br></div><div>My aim for this month is two fold really. </div><div><br></div><div>1) to finish as many sewing, knitting and crochet projects as I can. Chunky blue scarf that's been on the needles for about a year, I'm looking at you! </div><div><br></div><div>2) to sew more of my clothes for our holiday to India. I wanted to so this last year, I even have a pattern for some nice high waisted shorts, so I've got no excuses really. </div><div><br></div><div>We're off on the 17th. So I don't have much time. I may take some crochet things with me, but that'll be it. </div><div><br></div><div>Things I'd like to finish for India:</div><div><br></div><div>1) Evening dress that's still on the mannequin. Needs the side seams sewing, bias binding finished, the back of the skirt hemmed and a couple of straps adding if I get the chance! </div><div><br></div><div>2) Halter neck top in Hawaiian print. Very pin up for by the pool! </div><div><br></div><div>3) Shorts in Hawaiian print. To match. Obviously....</div><div><br></div><div>4) Wrap around circle skirt. In Hawaiian print. (Yeah I got some free fabric. Check for another blog post in a few days!) This is my own pattern, to go over the shorts with the top to look like a dress but still be practical! </div><div><br></div><div>5) Denim shorts. Simple. Classic. To be used all summer!</div><div><br></div><div>6) A couple of sheer blouses (time permitting) for evening wear. </div><div><br></div><div>Knitting and Crochet</div><div><br></div><div>7) pink beret. </div><div><br></div><div>8) green headband. </div><div><br></div><div>9) cream scarf. </div><div><br></div><div>10) chunky blue scarf. Apparently I find it difficult to knit holes :-S </div><div><br></div><div>Hmm. Ten things is probably enough for two weeks, with mostly just weekends to do sewing and evenings for wool work! </div><div><br></div><div>Wish me luck! Otherwise my holiday wardrobe will be sorely lacking! </div><div><br></div><div>Jo :-) </div><div><br></div><div>P.S. how many unfinished projects do you have lying around? :-)</div>Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04616839803303329232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3405851595133066442.post-44957904144601461782014-01-02T04:44:00.001-08:002014-01-02T04:44:48.681-08:00December 2013 Aim Finished!Happy New Year everyone! <div><br></div><div>And a happy Christmas while I'm at it! I decided (when everything became stupidly busy and I seemed to be spending every waking second cooking!) that Christmas was time off from the Internet at large. </div><div><br></div><div>I've kept up on reading blogs via emails, but other than that, have almost wholly neglected my phone!</div><div><br></div><div>It's been lovely actually. </div><div><br></div><div>We've had a wonderful Christmas. Full of friends, family and far too much food. </div><div><br></div><div>I'm writing this between bouts of New Year Party washing up (Yes. It's taken two days) and then I'm going for a walk in this beautiful sunshine! </div><div><br></div><div>So. December 2013. Hair setting. </div><div><br></div><div>Well I think I set it more than usual. It looked fabulous for a Christmas party before I went to Scotland! I set it for new year as well. Looser forties style curls. </div><div><br></div><div>Which then fell out fairly quickly as I got all stressed trying to put my damn corset on!! </div><div><br></div><div>Still haven't used the scary setting lotion. I'm still on the lookout for a spray bottle to apply it nicely. Anyone got any suggestions?</div><div><br></div><div>All in all, not bad. The set I used of lots of tight pin curls looked great, and the few bigger pin curls for looser curls was quick, easy and fairly effective. </div><div><br></div><div>But still. Must try harder!! :-S possibly should have tried a less busy month for this one, but hey ho! </div><div><br></div><div>Jo :-)</div><div><br></div><div>P.S. what does your other half think of setting your hair at night? Mine doesn't like it at all! </div>Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04616839803303329232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3405851595133066442.post-62919174169954472522013-12-17T06:23:00.001-08:002013-12-17T06:24:18.366-08:00December Aim. (and maybe even prior to that!)<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-YFwMXM97kkg/UpsjDJZK-1I/AAAAAAAAAfo/BU_-16gYlcM/s640/blogger-image--2939521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-YFwMXM97kkg/UpsjDJZK-1I/AAAAAAAAAfo/BU_-16gYlcM/s640/blogger-image--2939521.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>It was mostly for me, as I love doing my Instagram round up posts, but can never remember where one month starts and finishes. </div><div><br></div><div>Then as I was posting it at two am this morning, I figured why not give it slightly more point. So my monthly aim was born! </div><div><br></div><div>The great ideas you have in the middle of the night!!</div><div><br></div><div>My aim for this month is to try and set my hair more often. To try out my setting lotion and to figure out a good basic set for my hair at the moment. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lnhvAor772A/UpsjHpo1UVI/AAAAAAAAAgA/QgpYNAegRJI/s640/blogger-image--806785720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lnhvAor772A/UpsjHpo1UVI/AAAAAAAAAgA/QgpYNAegRJI/s640/blogger-image--806785720.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I love the way rollers come out but I get frustrated with them sometimes. </div><div><br></div><div>My pin curl sets are never the same! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-raiYJkU0Z9c/UpsjEjGRlrI/AAAAAAAAAfw/SK0yIjRO5tU/s640/blogger-image--957022382.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-raiYJkU0Z9c/UpsjEjGRlrI/AAAAAAAAAfw/SK0yIjRO5tU/s640/blogger-image--957022382.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Sometimes I get lazy and just do plaits. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LCpxKYocyTE/UpsjBfvyo9I/AAAAAAAAAfg/sgL4KMVkHMU/s640/blogger-image-852548651.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LCpxKYocyTE/UpsjBfvyo9I/AAAAAAAAAfg/sgL4KMVkHMU/s640/blogger-image-852548651.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I run out of time and use heated rollers. The curls never last though. And I look like a total idiot for half an hour. Huge clips sticking up off my head! </div><div><br></div><div>So basically I'm going to aim for more of this:</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YRSkbWsfnAM/UpsjJBIV_dI/AAAAAAAAAgI/25haopzL9ns/s640/blogger-image--352218927.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-YRSkbWsfnAM/UpsjJBIV_dI/AAAAAAAAAgI/25haopzL9ns/s640/blogger-image--352218927.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div>Resulting in beautiful neat curls. </div><div><br></div><div>And less of this:</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-mwi9rjpJlnM/UpsjGGZFs-I/AAAAAAAAAf4/b7uJRm3RG-A/s640/blogger-image--1847768781.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-mwi9rjpJlnM/UpsjGGZFs-I/AAAAAAAAAf4/b7uJRm3RG-A/s640/blogger-image--1847768781.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Crazy curls with no rhyme or reason to them! </div><div><br></div><div>So, Go December (!), for good hair!!</div><div><br></div><div>Jo :-)</div><div><br></div><div><i>P.S. got any aims this month? Some sad finds. Ruined fifties petticoats and a handmade dress. Apparently there's mice in there! </div><div><br></div><div>There's still some suitcases of clothes to go through, but Eric's gran was tiny. So I have no hope except for accessories! </div><div><br></div><div>One thing there was an abundance of though was magazines.
